About Us
North Alabama Recovery Residences (NARR)
Dignity. Respect. Recovery—At Home.
North Alabama Recovery Residences (NARR) is a standards‑based organization dedicated to improving the quality, safety, and integrity of residential recovery housing across North Alabama. Our mission is to ensure that individuals in recovery have access to safe, respectful, and truly home‑like living environments that support long‑term recovery and personal stability.
Our Purpose
NARR exists to protect residents, support ethical home operators, and strengthen recovery communities by promoting housing practices that prioritize people over profit. We believe recovery residences should feel like homes—not overcrowded facilities—and that every resident has the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
What We Do
✅ Certification & Affiliation
We certify and affiliate recovery residences that meet or exceed established standards for residential recovery housing. NARR‑affiliated homes voluntarily agree to uphold enhanced occupancy, space, supervision, and resident‑rights requirements, many of which exceed national recovery residence guidelines.
✅ Resident Rights Advocacy
We promote and enforce a Residential Rights Agreement that affirms every resident’s right to:
- Dignity, respect, and fair treatment
- A safe, uncrowded, and well‑maintained home
- Privacy, confidentiality, and clear house rules
- A recovery‑focused living environment free from exploitation
✅ Standards That Go Beyond Minimums
NARR standards emphasize:
- True residential homes, not institutional or dorm‑style housing
- Reduced density (including stricter space‑per‑resident and bathroom limits)
- Assigned bedrooms and individual beds for every resident
- No sleeping in common areas such as living rooms, kitchens, or garages
- On‑site supervision and 24‑hour staff contact
Our Values
🏠 Home First
Recovery happens best in environments that feel safe, stable, and familiar. We believe every resident deserves a real home—not just a place to sleep.
🤝 Dignity & Respect
Every individual in recovery deserves to be treated as a person, not a number. Respect and dignity are non‑negotiable.
🌱 Recovery‑Centered Care
We support housing models that foster accountability, peer support, personal responsibility, and community integration.
🛡 Accountability & Integrity
Affiliated homes are held to clear, transparent standards and ongoing compliance to protect residents and uphold public trust.
